There are certain places in a wedding ceremony where music is traditionally performed. The list below explains the different musical categories, followed by a chart suggesting which pieces best fit these categories.

Preservice (Prelude)
Music is performed here as guests arrive. It is best to perform pieces not used elsewhere in the service.

Interludes may occur in the service when the bride and groom move closer to the altar, when the bride and groom light candles, receive communion, etc.

At this time the wedding party and bride proceed down the aisle to the altar. A piece may need to be repeated until the entire wedding party is in its place.

This music is performed as the wedding party leaves the service.

It is highly recommended that the musicians rehearse with the wedding party to determine how many pieces need to be performed and how many (if any) need to be repeated.
